HOW TO GET CRACKS OR A HOLE FROM LEATHER
Repairing leather cracks is of course possible if you keep a few things in mind. First of all, you should have a repair kit or some utensils ready for leather repair. Then you can get started right away. The first step is to clean the damaged area. You can easily clean the smooth leather with a special leather degreaser. Alternatively, you can try alcohol, which helps to clean and degrease. Now you need to glue the cracked area together. This requires a very strong adhesive, so that the cracked area has a long shelf life. There are of course special leather glues from many suppliers. Then you take a fine sanding stone or pad to roughen the edges so that you can then use the liquid leather.
The leather repair continues when you are done with the sanding. Then you should remove any dirt with a cloth so that you can apply the liquid leather. If you want to repair a crack in the leather, you must now carefully apply the liquid leather to the affected area and spread it with a special spatula. Now you have to wait until the liquid leather has hardened. It may happen that the leather sags a little. If this is the case, then you need to repeat this process. After the repair, the leather color may deviate, which is why you need to touch up the leather color over a large area.
IS IT ALSO POSSIBLE TO REPAIR IMITATION LEATHER?
It is also possible to repair high-quality imitation leather. However, you have to ask yourself whether the effort and the costs are worth it, since imitation leather is usually much cheaper than real leather. However, if you have a favorite leather jacket made of imitation leather, then of course you should repair it.
Do you have, for example, a beautiful armchair made of artificial leather, but the armrests are a little worn? Then you can easily fix this area with special color fresheners. The leather repair of cracks should be done with PVC glue. However, it is possible that this area will still be visible after the repair. With special kits that contain all the necessary utensils, repairing may be easier and more effective. You can also use the glue here if necessary. For large holes, you should definitely use a patch to make the repair successful. However, many synthetic and man-made materials can't be repaired compared to genuine leather, as the upper material often comes loose over time, so we still recommend opting for genuine leather or for really high-quality faux leather alternatives that are becoming more and more similar to the genuine leather structure.
