Cleaning suede

Cleaning suede is not that difficult and can be done with simple household remedies. First of all, you should be able to answer the question "What is suede?" in order to be able to clean and care for suede. Suede belongs to the category of rough leather, although it is often confused with suede or nubuck leather. Basically, rough leather is divided into two subcategories, namely fine nubuck leather and the somewhat coarser suede. As the name suggests, suede is obtained from the hides of wild animals. However, these rarely live in the wild these days. The animals include elk, deer, wild boar, kangaroos and many more. Fine nubuck leather, on the other hand, is obtained from cattle or calves and only gets its rough surface after it has been sanded. Sanding makes the leather very breathable and gives it a very pleasant feel. In addition, nubuck leather is also waterproof, but the material also has disadvantages.

Not all leather is waterproof, which is why you should know what material you are dealing with. Before cleaning suede, you should familiarize yourself with the material. There are two different types of suede. One type is obtained from the flesh side, i.e. the back of the upper animal hide. With the second type, the leather is split downwards, giving the material a rough surface on both sides. Suede is used in many different areas, including clothing, shoes and gloves. Like nubuck leather, suede is also very breathable. It is also a very robust and durable material. Unlike nubuck leather, however, suede has long fibers that can become greasy with regular use. For this reason, regular suede care is essential.

Cleaning suede: What you need to consider

Do you have a suede coat, a suede bag or do you want to clean a suede sofa? Then you should consider a few things. If you want to clean suede, you should always start with dry cleaning. To do this, the dust on the leather is first removed. You don't need any care products for this, just a special brush that you can use to go over the product. The advantage of a brush is that it not only removes the dust, but can also roughen the material. Heavier dirt can be removed using special erasers. The erasers clean light suede particularly well. If you have very heavy dirt and not just a few small water stains on your leather goods, you can also use leather soap. You should then wash your leather goods with a little warm water.

After cleaning suede, it is very important that your leather goods dry well. You should never make the mistake of leaving the shoes to dry in the sun or on a heater. Instead, you can stuff your leather goods with newspaper and hang them up to dry if possible. You should waterproof your leather goods after every cleaning. Waterproofing should also be done immediately after buying or acquiring them. There is a difference between suede and suede, which is why you should use special products that are suitable for suede when cleaning suede. So you can see that cleaning suede is relatively easy if you pay attention to a few basic things. Regardless of whether you want to clean your suede and use household remedies or special cleaners, it is important that you do not grease them. Otherwise the suede would turn into smooth leather.

Suede shoes care: What you need to consider

Cleaning suede is very important, but so is caring for it so that the leather goods look as beautiful after many years as they did when you bought them. Impregnating the suede is a very important part of caring for it. You can also dye the suede. To do this, you first have to wash the suede and remove all the dirt. After cleaning the suede, dry it. Once all the dirt has been removed and the shoes have dried, they need to be roughened. You can do this very easily with a special suede brush. After roughening, you can start dyeing. For this you need special leather dye and a soft sponge or brush. You should cover your work surface and wear gloves, as the dye is very difficult to remove. You can also cut the sponge into small strips so that it does not absorb any unnecessary dye.

Then let the dye dry and make sure that the dye is evenly distributed everywhere. At the end you can go over the leather with a special leather finish. You can answer the question "Is suede real leather" yourself, because only real leather can be dyed. Regardless of whether it is a suede dress or shoes, you have to clean and care for the suede. Water stains and other light dirt are best treated immediately. Cleaning suede shoes with household remedies is no problem at all, all you need is a little soap and warm water, but you must not use any aggressive soap. After cleaning the suede, let the leather goods dry properly and then waterproof them.
